The AZ Department of Child Safety (DCS) is a state organization that investigates any claims of child neglect, abandonment, or injury.  It is important to contact an attorney as soon as possible, if DCS contacts you! If a DCS contact card is placed on your door, it's important to contact an attorney as soon as possible to find out and protect your parental rights! If a DCS caseworker arrives at your residence without prior notice, you have the right to have attorney present with you, when you are questioned by a DCS representative.  You have a right to an attorney throughout DCS proceedings pending against you. 

During an active investigation against one or both parents, grandparents have the ability to intervene.  Further, grandparents may be able to gain temporary custody to provide temporary care for the child/children while DCS proceedings are pending against one or both parents.  It's important to hire an attorney to assist with a DCS matters, as a negative determination from DCS and/or the Courts could lead to your child being placed in the foster care system.
